Genuine Freedom
Text: John. 8:29-36.
When we talk about genuine freedom, it means total deliverance from sins and Sin which imply Self.
Rom. 3:23 says “for all have sinned and come short of the glory of God”
The word of God says all have sinned which mean that no one is righteous from the birth and that righteousness comes into one’s life when he/she has been regenerated.
The bible continue in the book of 1John. 1:8 that if we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.
It says the truth that gives genuine freedom is not in us. Also in 1John. 3:4-5 that “whosoever commiteth sin trangresseth also the law, for sin is the transgression of the law and you know that he (Christ) was manifested to take away our sins and in him is no sin. ”
It is very clear to us that everyone born on earth here, no matter who the person may be he/she is a sinner even if they gave birth to him /her on altar he is a sinner.
But the solution follow it that Christ manifested to take away our sins and in him is no sin.
HOW CAN A PERSON HAVE GENUINE FREEDOM.
It happen first by realizing oneself as a sinner and confess those sins to God Proverb. 28:13; Rom. 10:9-10.
After the sins have been confessed and the person believed on Christ then he is saved but not total salvation because the salvation must be worked out in other for him or her to live and please God without falling back to sin again. Philip. 2:12-13.
Let’s now come to John. 8: to see what Christ said concerning genuine freedom.
John. 8:29-36.
In verse 29.
Jesus showed people what made God to continue be with him and what he also does that made God not to leave him at anytime.
In verse 30. When people heard him speak they believed on him.
In verse 31.
Jesus affirmed the truth to them that if you continue in my word then you are my disciples indeed.
What does it mean to stand in Christ word?
It means to allow God’s word to be the life we are living. Don’t forget that we read in 1John. 1:8. that if we say we have no sin, the truth is not in us.
Christ is the truth. John. 14:6. Any life without Christ will be full of sins and crisis. Christ also is the word of God. Rev. 19:13.
In verse 32. He continue and say and you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free.
It is by understanding that comes from the truth which is the word of God that helps a man to be free from sins and Sin.
Hear what the book of job says
” And unto man he said, behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom, and to depart from evil is understanding. Job. 28:28 ”
In verse 33. They answered him, we be Abraham’s seed and never in bondage to any man; how sayest thou ye shall be made free?
In verse 34 Jesus answered them verily verily I say unto you whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.
Anyone that commit sin after he/she has know Christ is a servant of sin, whoever he may be, if he sings well here and we see sin in him he would not join us to sing in the kingdom of God, 1John. 3:6;8; I Cor. 6:9-10.
In verse 35 Jesus said and the servant abideth not in the house for ever, but the son abideth ever.
When you live with understanding that Christ lives in you and you sin not then you become God’s son and daughter of God. 2Cor. 6:16-18.
Now in verse 36. Jesus said if the son therefore shall make you free, you shall be free indeed.
Genuine freedom comes when a life have confessed his/her sins and forsake them and obtain mercy from God
Then he/she will start making use of the understanding that Christ lives in him or her. Gal. 2:20.
Living daily by saying no to all the dictates of Sin, Devil and agree to live godly life that is the way to have genuine freedom. Titus. 2:11- 14.
God will give you understanding to live aright with him till you behold Christ face to face. Amen.
